April 15th is the day every year that your taxes are absolutely due. Haven’t filed yet?! Well, there’s 3 things you should know!! Hit the jump to find out.
1. This year you’re in luck. Slightly. The deadline has been extended until Monday because of a Jewish holiday that’s being celebrated today and tomorrow. So if you haven’t filed yet, you still have 4 more days! Only 2 if you’re going to an accountant though…unless they’re open for crunch time this weekend.
2. If you DON’T file your taxes, you can get into some major trouble with the law. Look at Wesley Snipes doing time now for tax evasion. You can read some more info here.
3. If you don’t want to stand in line, you can use something super quick and simple like Turbotax.com. Marisa uses that every year without issues. You go to the site, make a log in..go through the questions and fill in all the info on the tax forms your job(s) sent you (and Sallie Mae if you’re paying loans…you can get money back from that) and it’s free to file the federal and only $30 for the state return. Very simple, very quick and you get your money in about a week!!
