Mark Wahlberg, star of the hit movie “The Fighter”, told EW that he expects the full cast to return for the sequel. Although nothing is confirmed yet, I don’t see why any of the cast masts will turn down their roles after the first movie had such success. Would you watch the sequel with a whole new cast? Mark Wahlberg failed to land an Oscar nomination for his work in “The Fighter,” but perhaps he’ll have another shot at the title when he returns as Micky Ward.

The previously nominated actor has made no secret about his hopes to bring “The Fighter” gang back together for a sequel, and now he’s discussed his plans at length with Entertainment Weekly. But don’t expect “The Fighter” to become the next “Rocky” franchise, as Wahlberg insists he’s only interested in going for one more round in the ring.

“I’m trying to plant the idea in everyone’s head that we should do — not five or six Fighters like Rocky — but one more because the big thing that Micky Ward was famous for was his three epic battles with Arturo Gatti,” he explained. “So we’re talking about possibly taking one more run at it.”

Wahlberg said that he expects everybody involved with the first film to return for the still-unconfirmed sequel, though nothing is guaranteed: “Everybody had such an amazing experience making the movie that I can’t imagine they wouldn’t want to go back. But it’s still kind in the early stages.”

The actor, who says that Micky and his brother Dickie Eklund (played to Oscar-winning heights by Christian Bale) are “both thrilled by the possibility” of a sequel, is staying in shape as he waits to become the Pride of Lowell once again.

“I’ve got my sparring partner sitting right in front of me. We did about ten rounds yesterday,” said Wahlberg. “And in between shooting this movie that I’m doing, we had a couple of hours off while they shot another couple of scenes, so we flew back to the hotel, got in our boxing gear, boxed, took a shower, and went back to the set.”
