Bengals defensive end Antwan Odom’s luxury home near Cincinnati was heavily damaged by fire Tuesday.

According to a report by WCPO-TV, firefighters arrived at about 2:00am local time as flames shot from the top of the home. The roof later collapsed into the first floor, but neighbors told the station that Odom, his wife and five children were out of town visiting relatives in Alabama.

Firefighters were reportedly still dousing the house with water more than 10 hours after the blaze started. Mason, Ohio, Fire Chief John Moore said crews will need to pump out all of the water before investigators can enter and try to determine what caused the fire.

Moore said he considered the home to be a total loss. According to a listing on the Warren County Auditor’s website, the home is worth $1.1 million.

Odom, 29, is originally from Bayou La Batre, Ala., and played in college for Alabama. He was drafted in the second round by Tennessee in 2004 but has spent the past three seasons with the Bengals.

Odom racked up eight sacks in the first six games of the 2009 season before a season-ending Achilles tendon injury. He played in only three games in 2010 because of a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, combined with knee and wrist injuries.
