Barry Bonds has for the fourth time pleaded not guilty to charges he lied to a grand jury when he denied knowingly taking steroids.

The renewed plea on Tuesday was required after prosecutors revised their indictment for the second time since the original indictment was unsealed in November 2007. Bonds faces four charges of perjury and one count of obstruction. His trial begins March 21.

Bonds entered his plea ahead of a hearing where former personal trainer Greg Anderson is expected to tell a federal judge of his desire to go to jail on contempt charges for the length of the trial rather than testify as a government witness against Bonds.

Anderson previously spent more than a year in prison for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating Bonds.
