Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo held true to Friday’s statement about the club’s plan to make several roster moves this week.

The team announced the release of defensive tackle Tommie Harris on Monday and terminated the contracts of linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer and offensive lineman Kevin Shaffer.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Harris started 90 of 104 career games for the Bears in seven seasons, but he was released in part because of under performance in 2010. Harris was also due a $2.5 million roster bonus in June. It’s possible Harris could return to the Bears if he takes a pay cut.

Hillenmeyer started 69 of 101 career games for the Bears over eight seasons, recording 458 tackles, 17 tackles for losses, seven sacks, two interceptions, six forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He added 37 special teams stops. He did not play last season after suffering a concussion in the Bears’ third preseason game.

Shaffer started seven at right tackle over the past two seasons in Chicago.
