Memphis Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo has been suspended without pay for 10 games for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy, the league announced Thursday.

The league said Mayo tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone, which is a steroid precursor known as DHEA.

His suspension will begin with Friday night’s game between the Grizzlies and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Mayo said in a statement released by the team that he is extremely disappointed he will miss 10 games as the Grizzlies are making a push for the playoffs. He blames an over-the-counter supplement for containing a substance banned by the NBA and calls it an “honest mistake.”
