Dr. Conrad Murray pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson, The Associated Press reported.
Murray entered the plea at his arraignment in Los Angeles Superior Court. “Your honor, I am an innocent man,” Murray said in a soft voice. “I definitely plead not guilty.”
The trial is scheduled to begin March 28, with a pretrial hearing Feb. 7.
Judge orders Conrad Murray to stand trial, suspends medical license
Following preliminary hearings earlier this month, Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor concluded that the prosecution provided sufficient evidence that Murray was at fault for the 50-year-old pop star’s death and ordered to stand trial on charges of involuntary manslaughter. In addition, the judge granted the California Medical Board’s request to suspend Murray’s license.
Murray was charged with and pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in February after coroners ruled Jackson’s death a homicide caused by acute propofol intoxication.
