On Sunday, word emerged that Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer will ask for a trade out of Cincinnati.

Palmer has not yet confirmed that he wants out.

One of his teammates seems to be hoping for the media and the fans to pounce.  Said receiver Chad Ochocinco on Twitter: “Carson Palmer demands a trade?  Last person demanded a trade in Cincy was crucified by the media [and] had to win the fans back, how will this go?”

Ochocinco then tried to draw the attention of ESPN’s Skip Bayless to the situation, and to instigate Bayless to (presumably) criticize Palmer.

“Skip, my quarterback wants a trade and I’m still under the bus my head coach threw me under?  What shall thou do?”

Apart from making it clear that Palmer and Ochocinco probably won’t be playing together again, in Cincinnati or elsewhere, Chad is overlooking one fairly important point.  When he wanted out of town three years ago, Ochocinco didn’t mince words or leak the news or work privately behind the scenes.  He told anyone who’d listen of his intentions.  The effort included a city-by-city Radio Row tour at the Super Bowl, during which he appealed to the fans of multiple NFL cities to get their local teams to try to trade for him.
