This is so sad! A father was attempting to give his 12 year old a driving lesson when he accidentily drove the family into a canal, leaving 3 in critical condition. There are many lessons to be learned here! A child that young does NOT need to be behind the wheel! Parents please take note! Read the rest of the story after the jump, and prayers with the family!

(OS) - A father was trying to give his 12-year-old son a driving lesson when the boy drove his family into a canal, a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report said.

The boy’s mother and two of his siblings were in critical condition late Sunday. No other information was available late Monday night.

Gregorio Paulino-Ortega, 41, of suburban West Palm Beach, pulled over his Isuzu Rodeo on Collecting Canal Road about 3:40 p.m. Sunday. His son, Ernesto Paulino, switched seats with him and then mistakenly put the SUV into gear, according to the report.

Ernesto accelerated across Collecting Canal Road, plunging the SUV into a Loxahatchee canal.

The father and son were in the front seat and were not hurt, Sheriff’s Office Sgt. John Churchill said. The mother, Martha Camarillo, 31, and two children, Ashley Paulino, 1, and Alonzo Paulino, 6, were taken to Palms West Hospital in Loxahatchee.

Deputies helped the father rescue the children, but it took rescuers between 10 and 30 minutes to extricate Camarillo, he said.

The canal, on a rural dirt road, had no guard rail.
