The NFL is investigating if Carolina Panthers defensive end Tyler Brayton leveled Atlanta’s Chris Owens with a blow to the head after Owens was forced off the field during a punt return last week.
League spokesman Greg Aiello told The Associated Press in an e-mail Sunday that “the incident is being reviewed by Merton Hanks for potential discipline, as would any such incident.”
Fox Sports showed a video of the second known incident from Week 14. New York Jets strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi was suspended indefinitely and fined $25,000 for sticking out his knee and tripping Miami’s Nolan Carroll.
The grainy coaches film shows Brayton walking up from the bench area toward the field as Owens is engaged with a Carolina defender. Brayton then drops Owens with what appears to be an elbow to the head.
Panthers spokesman Charlie Dayton said Sunday he was unaware of the incident or the league investigation.
