As you can imagine, they have plenty of insight on what music people are interested in, so every year-end they collect data from the millions who use the service to identify songs they’re hearing to predict the breakthrough acts of next year. Shazam has a relatively decent record of predictions. Its 2010 predictions included Ellie Goulding and Nicki Minaj. Last year’s predictions included Laday Gaga and Florance and the Machine. And 2008 predictions listed the Ting Tings and Duffy.
