(FOX)–The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN, voted Friday to move ahead on a contract with an American company, which plans to sell domain names ending in a new “.xxx” suffix.

The vote to enter into an agreement with ICM Registry LLC came at an ICANN meeting in Cartagena, Colombia. ICANN voted in June to proceed with the contract — reversing several decisions to reject ICM’s application.

The new registry still has other hurdles to clear, however. ICANN also voted Friday to consult on the matter with an advisory committee comprised of government officials worldwide. The committee has raised concerns about a suffix dedicated solely to sites with adult content.
