Like any good Big Apple tourist, the Miami Dolphins will take in a Broadway show while traveling to New York this weekend.

Team owner Jeffrey Ross arranged for the team to leave Miami one day earlier than usual so the players and coaches can watch the new Broadway play “Lombardi,” which is based on the life of the former Green Bay Packers coach. According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins will arrive in New York on Fridaymorning, have a practice at the New York Giants training facility in the afternoon (the team asked the Giants for permission to do so) and then catch the show at night, presumably after stopping by Sardi’s for a pre-curtain snack.

Miami will play the New York Jets on Sunday.

The trip has been in the works for two months, when Ross began planning the excursion. Coach Tony Sparano agreed to change the team’s practice schedule to accomodate the request. As such, the trip to New York will be both for business and pleasure.

Why stop at a Broadway show, though? Ross should have planned for the team to go stand outside at the “Today” show, make a visit to Pop-Tarts World in Times Square and have stationed Dolphins players and coaches across Manhattan in an attempt to get picked up by the Cash Cab.

The Herald notes the last time the Dolphins took a similar, pregame field trip was in 1996 when Jimmy Johnson took the team to a dog track on the night before a game to watch Mike Tyson fight Bruce Seldon.

One day after that excursion, Miami beat up on the Arizona Cardinals, 38-10.
