New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs was fined $20,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct after he was observed making obscene gestures and yelling obscenities toward fans in the stands prior to the Eagles-Giants game in Philadelphia on Sunday.
Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Tommy Kelly was also fined $20,000.
This is Jacobs’ second unsportsmanlike conduct violation this season. He was previously fined $10,000 for tossing his helmet into the stands in Indianapolis in Week 2.
At the conclusion of pregame warm-ups, Jacobs was observed by an NFL security representative making obscene gestures and yelling obscenities toward fans at Lincoln Financial Field, according to a league spokesman.
In a letter to Jacobs, NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson said the conduct was “unprofessional and unbecoming as an NFL player” and noted that “repeated violations will result in increased disciplinary action, which may include suspension for conduct detrimental to the league.”
Kelly was fined for unnecessary roughness on a special teams play when he unnecessarily struck a Steelers player in the head area. He was docked $5,000 in 2008 for a late shove of an opponent in a loss to San Diego.
