Wyclef Jean is being sued by Blahzay Blahzay (a group from the 90’s) for allegedly stealing their beat and using it on his 2007 album, Carnival. They’re looking for $2 million! That’s a bit much!
Supposedy Wyclef had reached out to them before the album dropped and asked for permission to sample their song (Danger), but they told him it was a no-go unless ‘Clef allowed them to appear on his album and get writing credits on the track (“Welcome to the East”)
According to the documents that were filed in court, Wyclef never agreed to the terms but put the song on the album anyway and sent a check, which Blahzay Blahzay “promptly rejected and returned.”
TMZ reports the group had actually filed this last year, but dropped the case when a member of Clef’s camp approached them to “negotiate”. When no such negotiations went down, they re-filed.
Hmmm. Who do you think is in the wrong here?
