The Philadelphia 76ers’ Elton Brand has been suspended one game without pay for his flagrant foul on JaVale McGee during Tuesday’s game between 76ers and the Washington Wizards.
“The incident, in which Brand made contact by shoving McGee during a layup
attempt and was ejected following the Flagrant Foul, Penalty Two call,
occurred with 3:32 remaining in the 4th period of the 76er’s 116-114
overtime loss to the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center in Washington
D.C.,” said a press release from the NBA.
The foul was a turning point in the game, as McGee took a pass from John Wall and elevated for a dunk. Brand, realizing that he had no chance to contest the shot, deliberately shoved McGee with two hands. McGee was dislodged but still managed to throw down the dunk before taking a hard landing on his backside.
While rolling around and grimacing on the floor, McGee waved goodbye to Brand (who was ejected from the game), then rose to his feet. The incident seemed to spark the Wizards, who eventually tied the game and won it in overtime.
Brand will serve his suspension tonight when the 76ers face the Toronto
Raptors at Air Canada Centre.
