The Philadelphia Eagles announced that Ellis Hobbs has full movement of his extremities and X-rays on his neck were negative Sunday night after a scary moment for the veteran cornerback.
Hobbs was carried off the field on a stretcher following the kickoff to begin the third quarter after New York Giants defensive end Dave Tollefson hit him in a helmet-to-helmet collision. Hobbs appeared to fall limp to the turf at Lincoln Financial Field. There was no penalty on the play because Hobbs was not deemed to be “defenseless.”
“It’s part of the game, but it’s an ugly part,” Eagles defensive end Darryl Tapp told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “You never want to see that, not with your team, not with the other team.”
Hobbs remained on the ground for roughly 10 minutes.
“It looked like it was bad,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said.
Hobbs tried to get up at one point and raised both hands as he was carried off the field. The team announced he has a neck injury and that’s scary from the standpoint that Hobbs was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury last season. Fortunately, the injury does not appear to be serious, but it certainly could impact his career moving forward.
