According to an official from the communications authority, Facebook had “crossed a line” with the kingdom’s conservative morals. However, according to this official, blocking the site is only a “temporary measure”. The site was blocked Saturday so now an error message shows up when Internet users try to access it. Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam and religious leaders have strong influence over policy making and social mores.
