The Orlando Magic’s game against the New York Knicks tonight will be rescheduled. Howard Beck of the New York Times reports:

Knicks now confirming: Game canceled due to issues with floor. Asbestos fell from ceiling during cleaning. Game will be rescheduled.

Two weeks ago, the NBA cancelled the Orlando Magic’s final preseason game, a contest against the Miami Heat, due to an untenably slippery floor. The same situation might play out tonight in New York, where the Magic are set to take on the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. According to Sam Gardner of Fox Sports Florida, Garden officials have yet to put the basketball floor down following last night’s hockey game between the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks.

A Knicks PR official told Dan Savage of OrlandoMagic.com that play will proceed as planned, but Knicks beat writer Alan Hahn said just moments later that the contest is “in jeopardy.”

I’m inclined to believe the Magic and Knicks will indeed play tonight, but as the preseason fiasco in Tampa proved, nothing’s impossible, I suppose. The teams would have to make up the game at a later date, which would be rather ridiculous. Last season, a D.C. snowstorm prevented the Washington Wizards and Atlanta Hawks from playing as scheduled on February 6th, with the league ultimately rescheduling the game for March 11th, resulting in a rare back-to-back-to-back set for Washington.

Tipoff tonight is set for 7:30. Regardless of whether or not the Magic play tonight, they have to return to Orlando for their game tomorrow against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
