An 87-year-old woman accused  of selling crack cocaine to an undercover deputy was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months in state prison.

Judge Jan Shackelford sentenced Ola Mae Agee of Pensacola after a jury found her guilty Tuesday morning of one count of selling cocaine.

Agee faced a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Ted Roy was not surprised at the sentence.

“Eighteen months at that age is a lot worse than a 25-year-old getting 18 months,” Roy said.

Agee was arrested May 13 at a home in the 900 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive after an undercover Escambia County deputy bought a $20 piece of crack cocaine from her, according to an arrest report.

An Escambia County Sheriff’s Office surveillance video shows the undercover deputy knock on the back door of the home during an April 30 undercover sting. She answered the door and walked the deputy to another room where she retrieved the crack after rummaging through the couch.

The jury was shown the video.

“It’s pretty straight forward,” said Assistant State Attorney Amy Brodersen, who prosecuted the case. “(The jurors) were not out very long. Maybe 15 minutes at the most.”

Agee’s arrest in May was not her first in Escambia County on drug charges.

She pleaded no contest in December 1996 to possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver. She served two years of probation, which ended in July 1998 when she was 75 years old.

She also was arrested in February 1999 on two charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. One charge was dropped. Agee pleaded no contest to a second charge and received two years of probation.

The State Attorney’s Office asked that Agee receive prison time in her most recent case because of her criminal history.

“There are consequences to everybody’s actions,” Brodersen said. “She has to be accountable just as everyone else who is out selling drugs in the community.”
