After, well, years of speculation, with the gossip reaching a fevered pitch the last few months, Mariah Carey confirmed that she is pregnant on the “Today” show Thursday morning (October 28).

“Well, we’re here in New York; yes, we are pregnant,” the 41-year-old singer said during a pre-taped interview segment with “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush. “This is true.”

Carey opened up about her struggle to get pregnant, but kept many of the details about her pregnancy shrouded in mystery in order to maintain some privacy. “I’m actually dealing with this, and it’s been a long journey but it’s been tough,” she explained. “Well, it’s still early. We’re expecting in the spring.”

The singer added that she and husband Nick Cannon wanted to tread lightly when it came to the pregnancy because she she suffered a miscarriage two years ago. “Actually, it was it was difficult. It really was,” she said. “[When I had the miscarriage,] it was really sad. We had really to absorb this and take it in.”

Cannon joined his wife during the interview. “It’s absolutely emotional, but for so many reasons,” he said. “The greatest gift on earth is a child.”

The latest rumors of Carey’s pregnancy began circulating when she dropped out of Tyler Perry’s flick “For Colored Girls …” back in May. Carey hasn’t said much about the speculation, but Cannon has acted as her mouthpiece, usually dancing around the question when asked.

In August, Carey did blog about the rumors, writing, “I appreciate everyone’s well wishes. But I am very superstitious,” she wrote on her website. “When the time is right, everyone will know — even Cindi Berger [my publicist].”
