Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Jerramy Stevens will not play Sunday after he was arrested Saturday night for possession of cannabis with intent to sell, possession of cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The first two charges are felonies, while the last one is a misdemeanor.
Stevens was arrested at 7:12 p.m. Saturday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and released on $4,500 bond early Sunday.
“We’re deeply disappointed by this news. We take such matters seriously,” Buccaneers spokesman Jonathan Grella told the Tampa Tribune. “Obviously, Jerramy Stevens will not be participating today. We will address this matter with the seriousness it deserves, but in the meantime, we’re focused on the Rams game.”
Stevens, who signed with the Buccaneers in 2007 after being released by Seattle, was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2007 and was suspended for one game that season.
In June 2003, he pleaded guilty to reckless driving in a plea deal after being stopped in the Seattle suburb of Medina for investigation of drunken driving. He received a two-day jail sentence.
The 30-year-old Stevens has three receptions for 43 yards this season.
