Kim Kardashian is a fan of jewels, but she doesn’t want them on her 30th birthday cake. The reality star turned down a surprise gem-encrusted birthday cake reportedly worth $1 million. The sparkling sweet was crafted by Nino Selimaj, owner of New York’s Nino’s Restaurant and a fine-jewelry purveyor.
GLO Nightclub, which claimed it was hosting a birthday party for Kim on Saturday, October 23, issued a press release on Thursday inviting reporters to a special viewing of the cake. Following the release and radaronline.com’s coverage of the story, Kim put the brakes on the event. Via her Twitter account, @KimKardashian, Kim said, “I’d rather have a cupcake than a $1 million bday cake! Completely ridiculous!!” In a message on her website, Kim revealed that she didn’t know about the surprise bedazzled confection or the nightclub party. “This is the first I’ve heard about this, and I would never allow anyone to spend that much money on a cake,” she wrote. “Secondly, I’ve already had my birthday club celebrations at Tao in Vegas and NYC and the are NO other birthday parties this weekend.”
Following Kim’s protests, the press conference and scheduled unveiling were cancelled. A follow-up press release said Selimaj will offer the cake to his customers. Speaking to radaronline.com, Danielle Orsino, a spokesperson for GLO Nightclub, said, “It’s a shame that she couldn’t just enjoy it for what it is, a record-breaking diamond-encrusted cake gifted her, a lover of diamonds.”
