The NFL leads all sports in America in just about every category:  popularity, money, arrests and pointless shows on ESPN when there are other sports that are actually in season. The NFL even leads American sports on Twitter. The NFL has put the kibosh on tweeting during NFL games, but that won’t stop players from tweeting in between games.
These are some of the NFL Players to follow on Twitter during the season after the jump…

@OGOchoCinco
Chad OchoCinco(notes) is the NFL king of Twitter. Sure, Reggie Bush (@reggie_bush) still has a few more followers than the Bengal wide receiver, but he got that spot in large part thanks to @KimKardashian. Since their break up it is only a matter of time before Chad overtakes Reggie.

@Lfitzgerald11
Larry Fitzgerald has less than half of the Twitter followers of Reggie Bush and Chad OchoCinco, but he’s probably the next most popular NFL player on Twitter.

@michaelstrahan
When it comes to retired players two outspoken defensive players lead the way. Warren Sapp (@QBKILLA) has more followers, but Michael Strahan’s tweets are the better of the two former Pro Bowlers.

@drewbrees
Drew Brees  is only the best player on the reigning Super Bowl Champions. It should be interesting to read Drew’s tweets as the Saints try to win back to back Championships.

@leeevans83
Lee Evans  might not have a big factor in the NFL season since he plays for a Buffalo Bills team that could be the worst team in the NFL but he is a top tweeter. Evans is often posting photos and videos on his Twitter.

@ndamukong_suh
Ndamukong Suh will likely be the best rookie in the NFL in 2010. It’s always interesting to get a rookies opinion of their transition from college to the NFL and hopefully Suh will give us a little behind the scenes look.

@Jones_Drew32
Maurice Jones Drew is one of the most exciting players in the NFL and a great interview. MJD has great quotes whether they are humorous are serious pieces of wisdom.

@terrellowens
Chad OchoCinco’s new teammate is no stranger to Twitter. Even if you don’t like Terrell Owens(notes) his Twitter is a must read. There is no telling what will come out of Terrell Owens’ fingertips.

@tpolamalu
Most NFL tweeters talk about a lot of different topics but mainly focus on their NFL career. The number one topic on Troy Polamalu’s Twitter? Hair.

@NickBarnett
Nick Barnett is one of the most popular NFL Players on Twitter. The Packers favorite often has great quotes and is one of the best at interacting with his fans.
