The infamous corked bat belonging to former Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa has been put up for auction, myFOXchicago.com reported Monday.

Former Cubs pitcher Mike Remlinger, who says he offered the bat to Sosa, hid the doctored piece of lumber in a fishing rod case above his locker. The bat had been feared missing since Sosa swung and broke it, exposing the cork, in a 2003 game against Tampa Bay.

The auction house reportedly expects to get anywhere from $15,000 to $50,000 for the hollowed hardware.

Sosa racked up six Silver Slugger Awards during his 19 seasons and is best remembered for his long-ball battle with St. Louis slugger Mark McGwire in 1998. Sosa hit more than 60 home runs in three different seasons with the Cubs and ranks seventh all-time with 609 homers.

The 7-time MLB All-Star and 1998 National League MVP, who tested positive for steroids in 2003, closed out his career on a one-year stint with the Texas Rangers in 2007.
