The Minnesota Vikings have acquired seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Randy Moss for a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL draft, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The trade gives Brett Favre and the ailing Vikings passing game the downfield weapon it desperately needs.

Moss had his agent call the New England Patriots following Week 1 to ask for a trade, the Boston Herald reports. Sources told the Herald that the trade could happen without an extension — and was likely to happen on Wednesday.

Moss, in the final year of a three-year, $27 million contract, is upset that the Patriots refused to open negotiations for a contract extension. He has nine catches for 139 yards and three touchdowns this season in four games. He was held without a catch Monday night at Miami, often times seen not giving a full effort.
