NEWPORT, Wales – Graeme McDowell’s steady hand clinched the Ryder Cup for Europe in the final match Monday.
Hunter Mahan made it interesting over the final holes but couldn’t complete the comeback, as the Europeans prevailed 14½-13½ at Celtic Manor.

Rickie Fowler had made a 15-foot putt on his final hole in the previous match to earn a half-point and keep the Americans alive.

Down 4 after 12 holes against Edoardo Molinari, Fowler’s rally tied it at 13½-13½.

Earlier, Tiger Woods kept up his strong singles play at the Ryder Cup, beating Francesco Molinari 4 and 3.

Coming off the worst Ryder Cup loss of his career in alternate shot, Woods played some of his best golf of the year to wipe out an early two-hole deficit Monday. He holed out an eagle from the fairway at No. 12 and played the 15 holes at 9 under.

Woods win closed the gap to 13-11, with two more points seemingly assured from Zach Johnsonand Phil Mickelson.
