Fireman Ed is in hot water. The uber-Jets fan was charged with assault in an East Rutherford, N.J., court for his Aug. 16 scuffle with a Giants fan at the pre-season opener of the New Meadowlands Stadium.
Ed Anzalone – renowned for leading the “J-E-T-S! Jets, Jets, Jets!” chant – wound up bumping into Giants fan Christopher Black. The incident, which is now a YouTube favorite, occurred in the first quarter of the Giants-Jets exhibition game.
Black, 29, of Tinton Falls, N.J., went to Municipal Court last night to press charges against Anzalone, 51, a retired FDNY member.
“He was angry that he got shoved down by Fireman Ed,” said Black’s lawyer, Alexander Iler. “It was humiliating. Nobody likes getting assaulted on national TV.”
Black, who was charged with disorderly conduct for his role in the brief throwdown, was wearing a Giants No. 81 jersey when he clashed with the fire helmet-wearing Anzalone.
Both men are due back in court Oct. 27 to sort out the charges, according to a court clerk.
Robert Munoz, the attorney for Anzalone, said he couldn’t comment because neither he nor Fireman Ed had seen any paperwork in the case.
