An armed assailant shot two people at a Fort Bliss convenience store at about 3 p.m. today before military police killed the shooter, post officials said.
Law enforcement was on the scene about three minutes after the report of several shots being fired was received, said Col. Joseph Simonelli, the post’s garrison commander. The post was never on lockdown and soldiers and employees at the post were notified with an emergency response system that uses e-mail.
Simonelli declined to identify those involved during an afternoon press conference and he did not release details on the condition of the victims.
The shooter has been identified as male and the victims female.
According to Mayor John Cook, the two victims have been identified.
